Nope! Most of my clients place their save the date order, mail them, and then come back to start their invitation order.

You will want to send one invitation per household. So one couple will receive one invitation. I always recommend ordering 10-20 extra invitation suites, for photography, keepsakes, and if any get lost in the mail.
